I know that we’re not even at the end of October and I’m here talking about Christmas gift ideas, but in my opinion, it’s never too early to plan things. After all, you don’t want to be caught in the Christmas shopping craziness in December, so it’s better to plan ahead and then enjoy the holiday without stress, right?
Today I want to talk about what you should consider buying for an older family member. I always had difficulties with this and it took me a while to figure the best gifts out, but I succeeded and so can you.
So, if you’re ready, let’s find out what lovely gifts you can offer this Christmas. Enjoy!
Lovely memories
I don’t have to tell you that when it comes to older people, memories are very important. So anything that can remind them of a lovely time in their life, will make a wonderful gift. You can print a bunch of family photos and have them framed. It’s a simple gift, but it’s something from the heart and with strong emotional value.
You can also make a DVD with all kinds of sweet memories they can watch. There are a lot of gift possibilities when it comes to memories because you can never go wrong with such a gift.
A day out
When you’re getting older, it’s becoming more difficult to go out and socialize and that’s why a day out can be a great gift. You can go to a theater, to the Zoo or maybe book a high tea, everything is ok as long as you enjoy each other’s company and make nice memories.
Games don’t have an age
Admit it, we all like to play in a while because the child in us is still there, so why wouldn’t the elderly play? Here you have so many gift options that it will practically take me forever to write them all down. A nice puzzle, some cards (that you can also personalize), a chess table. To make things even better, start playing too, that way you can enjoy some quality time and also create nice memories.
Something nice
Now, here the options are infinite, but in this category are included more the type of gifts that your relative would like best. For example, my grandmother wanted very much a pair of cheap wide fit sandals and no matter what I did, I could not take her mind of them.
I always say that I like to buy practical gifts because I don’t want to spend money on stuff that will never be used or probably forgotten, and that’s why I try all the time to combine things. See if the person that you want to buy the gift for needs, ask it directly or find out through someone if you want the gift to be a surprise.
Remember that an elderly person has received a lot of presents through the years, so don’t try to go overboard or buy something flashy, just be yourself and think first with the heart, there you’ll find the answer.
